Upon Expectations and Its Anticipations

I love you
So let me disappoint you
I’ll ask you out for an impromptu date on Saturday night
And the place we’re in would be way too packed with rumbling noises and fluorescent lights
The chips we eat would be too salty and the velvet chair we sit on would feel so itchy
On the way home it would start to rain
And by seconds it sure would turn into hurricane
.
I love you
So let me disappoint you
On your birthday I would give you an elegant black watch when all you really want is the casual red
You would lead me for a make out on the couch and I would slowly tilt for a peck on the forehead
The cake would be way too sweet
When what you’re craving for is a hot-grilled meat
.
I love you
So let me disappoint you
I would have an emotional outburst and yell at you to go away
You then would have to convince me by breaking the walls in order to stay
You know, sometimes feeling are just so easy to miscommunicate
And the mind sometimes happen to also misinterpret without bother to elucidate
You would have no idea what to do
And I would helplessly too
.
But I will love you
And you will love me too
So let me disappoint you
And I will let you do so too

[a short prose inspired by Jody Picoult's quote in Handle With Care, "I knew what happened when you let yourself get close to someone, when you started to believe they loved you; you'd be disappointed." It took me awhile to finally understand that it is the nature of human to love and to expect--thus, to also be disappointed. We can't love without expecting and vice versa. While we should not take anything for granted--including love, I hope this piece of writing can give you a clearer and brighter glimpse of how to react to the condition given.]
